Shipping policy
SA DEPOT – SHIPPING & DELIVERY POLICY
Because SA Depot manages heavy industrial equipment, modular structures, and shipping containers, our shipping and delivery procedures differ significantly from standard consumer parcel post. Please review these terms carefully, as they outline your logistical responsibilities and what to expect during fulfillment.
1. Delivery Areas & Regional Scope
We arrange delivery throughout the Republic of South Africa. All distribution operations are coordinated directly from our central depot facility:
SA Depot Warehouse
65 8th Avenue, Grassy Park, Cape Town, Western Cape, 7941.
Delivery fees are calculated based on the precise transport distance from our Cape Town yard to your designated offloading coordinates, alongside the vehicle type required for your specific order configuration.
2. Transport Vehicle Configurations
Depending on your site constraints and the size of the container or equipment purchased, your order will be dispatched using one of the following heavy vehicle configurations:
-
Flatbed Truck: Requires an on-site crane, forklift, or rigging team provided by the customer to lift and position the container off the truck bed.
-
Crane Truck (Sidelifter / Crane Truck): The delivery vehicle is equipped with specialized lifting machinery to offload and position the container directly adjacent to the truck.
3. Critical Site Readiness & Access Requirements
The customer bears sole legal and financial responsibility for ensuring the designated drop-off location is completely accessible and prepared for heavy vehicles.
Before the delivery vehicle departs our yard, you must guarantee the following:
-
Clearance Paths: The access roads, gates, and turning circles must accommodate heavy commercial trucks (10 ft to 20ft rigid vehicles or large articulated links). Watch out for low-hanging branches, overhead power lines, or weak bridges.
-
Surface Integrity: The driving and placement surfaces must be hard, level, structurally sound, and free of deep mud or soft sand. Heavy transport vehicles can get stuck easily on uncompacted ground, and any recovery costs will be billed directly to the customer.
-
Spatial Dimensions: There must be sufficient overhead clearance and ground space for crane booms or sidelifter arms to safely expand and place the unit.
4. Failed Delivery Attempts & Demurrage Charges
If a transport vehicle arrives at your designated site and is unable to complete the delivery due to unready site surfaces, restricted gate access, low overhead obstructions, or safety hazards, the following protocols apply:
-
The driver will wait on-site for a maximum grace period of 60 minutes.
-
Any delays beyond this window will incur standard demurrage hourly fees, which will be invoiced to your account.
-
If delivery is entirely impossible due to site non-compliance, the vehicle will return the asset to our Cape Town yard. The customer will remain fully liable for the original transport fee, the return freight fee, and any subsequent re-delivery scheduling costs.
5. Timelines & Scheduling Variations
-
Stock Inventory: Standard, unmodified containers or equipment units are typically prepared and dispatched within 2 to 5 business days following full payment clearance.
-
Custom Modifications: Containers requiring specialized engineering modifications (e.g., custom paint finishes, technical doors, electrical tracking installations) will follow an agreed-upon production and delivery timeline detailed on your Proforma Invoice.
-
Scheduling Windows: While we make every attempt to hit targeted arrival times, all delivery windows provided are good-faith estimates. SA Depot is not liable for transport delays caused by municipal traffic restrictions, mechanical breakdowns, harbor delays, or adverse weather conditions.
6. Risk and Title Transfer
In strict accordance with Section 5 of our Terms of Service, risk and title regarding structural damage or loss pass completely to the buyer the moment the container or equipment unit is successfully uncoupled and placed onto the ground at your site (for crane deliveries), or the moment our vehicle arrives at your site boundary (if you are utilizing your own on-site rigging equipment to offload a flatbed truck).
7. Self-Collection Protocols
Customers who prefer to manage their own freight logistics are welcome to arrange self-collection from our yard:
-
Advance Clearance: You must coordinate a specific collection time window with our office at least 24 hours in advance to ensure your unit is cleared and positioned for crane loading.
-
Transport Compliance: Your third-party carrier must present a valid SA Depot release note at the gate, and the transport vehicle must be legally rated and equipped with standard twist-locks to secure the container class being collected.
